Försterweg Hamburg

A totally new golden facade on one of Hamburg’s tallest apartment blocks at Försterweg 36-42 can be seen from near and far.

The 20-storey concrete building dating from the 1970s has gained a new sculptural identity through an extensive renovation project, in which the 14,000 m2 facade was given secondary insulation and clad with golden aluminium panels in seven different shades.
What the architects have to say:

The vision behind the design was to perform energy renovation that is attractive to look at, poetic and socially sustainable, and that the residents and everyone around it could be proud of well into the future.

The new facade reinforces the building’s sculptural quality, as the variation in the facade cladding emphasises the existing building. The movable sun shade elements give the tower an individual look, and the choice of facade materials also lend the building a lifelike look day and night, depending on the position of the sun in the sky.
